Albany Scoop -- Capital New York: Jimmy Vielkind with the Capital Albany bureau

WAKE-UP SCOOP -- Ciampoli returns: G.O.P. attorney John Ciampoli is returning to the Senate Republicans after a four-year stint working for Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, a Senate spokesman confirmed. Ciampoli was abruptly terminated by Mangano in the days following his re-election.

Ciampoli started on Dec. 5 as a counsel in the conference’s Legislative Services unit, where he said he’ll focus on legislation and other matters as needed. He is on the short list of G.O.P. lawyers who handle election cases—he took time off from his county post to assist the Republican team handling the close election between ex-Assemblyman George Amedore and now-Sen. Cecilia Tkaczyk—and previously served as a counsel to the State Board of Elections, which could be invaluable as lawmakers prepare to consider changes to its operating structure. He last worked for the Senate in 2009. His new salary will be $155,000 a year.
